The implications of advice

Be careful when giving advice. Why? Because sometimes, people actually take it.

If you find yourself in the position of adviser, try and guide, direct, inspire. Do not dictate. Sympathise with the person and try and see the situation from their point of view first before you preach as to how you would handle the situation and what you would have done instead. Life’s path is different for everyone and we all have different grasps on reality. At the same time, consider the ripple effect of your advice and the harm that it could cause. Similarly, the power it could create, the waves it could move. If someone asks you for advice, it means they respect and trust your opinion. Be worthy of this.
